Why Women Hesitate to Claim Their Authority - Shatoyia Jones-Medor (Ep. 50)

Today on The Fairy BOSSmother Show, I met with Shatoyia Jones-Medor, a faith-led confidence coach who helps women move from self-doubt into self-mastery.

She already uses the title Queen of Self-Mastery, but in this conversation, we explore what it really means to live in full alignment with the identity you claim.

Can I help Shatoyia step fully into the power she already teaches others to own?

Before the Fairy BOSSmother

Before the episode, Shatoyia was living in a subtle but important misalignment.

Publicly, she positioned herself as the Queen of Self-Mastery. Privately, she was negotiating with that title. She worried how it might land and what people would think. She worried that owning it fully would invite criticism, judgment, or misunderstanding, especially as a woman, and especially as a woman of faith.

Shatoyia was already doing the work. She was already guiding women into strength and self-belief. But she was holding back from fully embodying the identity she was inviting others to step into.

During the show

As I started peeling back the layers, the tension became clear.

When I reflected her title back to her, the Queen of Self-Mastery, she flinched. Not because it was untrue, but because it was true out loud.

We talked about the difference between using powerful language and standing inside it. About how women are often taught to soften their authority so they don’t appear threatening, arrogant, or “too much.” And about how self-mastery isn’t quiet, palatable, or small, it’s embodied, visible, and unapologetic.

This episode wasn’t about giving Shatoya a new identity, but helping her align with an identity she already claimed.

After the show

By the end of the show, something shifted.

Shatoyia didn’t need to earn the title she was afraid of. She needed to stop shrinking around it. Self-mastery, after all, begins with self-alignment, saying what you mean, meaning what you say, and standing behind it without apology.

For the women she serves, this moment matters.

Because when a woman fully owns her role, her language, and her authority, she gives others permission to do the same through example.

Shatoyia doesn’t need to become the Queen of Self-Mastery. She already is. Now the work is living it out loud.
