How Cultural Conditioning Kept Her Silent for Years - Damola Adeniyi (Ep. 39)
Today on The Fairy BOSSmother Show, I met Damola Adeniyi, a Confidence and Mindset Coach who teaches women to speak up.
But for most of her life, she wasn’t allowed to. She grew up in a culture where being a “good girl” meant staying quiet, following rules, and never questioning authority.
Now, she’s built a business helping women do the opposite, to rise, speak, and take up space. But she can’t do confidently if she continues to stay quiet about her own journey.
Can I help Damola finally tell the story she’s spent years hiding?
Let’s meet Damola Adeniyi.

Before the Fairy BOSSmother
Damola’s business began as a general coaching practice for “ambitious women.” On paper, it made sense. She was polished, articulate, and deeply empathetic. But her messaging was vague because it spoke to everyone and connected with no one.
What she didn’t realize was that she’d built her brand to sound safe and struggled to put to words what she actually did. Her message was too sanitized and lacked a heartbeat.
Behind the glossy exterior though was a woman with a powerful story she never told. As a Nigerian woman living abroad, Damola had broken free from generations of cultural conditioning. From the pressure to be perfect, to please everyone, to never be seen as “too much”, Damola realized that her cultural and tradition upbringing kept her small and scared.
Her brand talked about confidence. But it never showed the price she paid to earn hers.
When I met her, she admitted she had never shared her backstory publicly. Not with clients. Not even on her own website. Because part of her still feared what people back home would think.
That’s when I realized… her business wasn’t just about mindset but Damola reclaiming her freedom.
During the show
The moment I asked her about her upbringing, something shifted.
Damola said softly, “I was never allowed to be the bad girl.”
That single sentence said everything.
Damola grew up in a world where being “good” meant staying quiet, never questioning authority, never speaking up, never wanting too much. But that conditioning followed her into adulthood. Even as a coach, she still held herself back.
We dug deep into how this “good girl” conditioning shaped her entire business. Her brand had boundaries so tight, it couldn’t breathe. Every post, every phrase, every idea was filtered through what will people think?
I told her, “You can’t help women break free from their own fears while you’re still chained to yours.”
And that’s when we uncovered her true mission: not to help just any ambitious woman,
but to help expat African women who have uprooted their lives abroad and are quietly trying to rebuild themselves from scratch.
Women who left everything familiar, their families, communities, and cultural identity, and are now stuck between two worlds. These women don’t need another pep talk. They need a mirror.
And that’s what Damola is.
A mirror reflecting the woman she’s become: brave, vocal, liberated.
After the show
By the end of the show, Damola had tears in her eyes, not from sadness, but from the realization that her story needed to be told in order to truly break free. She finally saw herself as the woman she’s been helping others become.
She no longer wanted to speak to ambitious women. She wanted to speak for African women who’ve outgrown silence by leaving their homes and starting again.
Her new brand narrative became deeply rooted in cultural liberation: confidence that comes from unlearning, from permission to fail, from embracing your own fire even when the world tells you to dim it.
Now, Damola’s redefining confidence, not as something you perform, but something you reclaim. Her next move is creating spaces, digital and in-person, where African expat women can share their stories without fear, shame, or apology.
Real confidence isn’t loud. It’s free.
