He says he’s completely honest with himself, so I tested it – Dave Rossi (Ep. 81)
Dave Rossi has spent years thinking deeply about human behavior, self-awareness, personal responsibility and the beliefs that shape the way we live. He describes himself as someone who actively looks for the things he might be missing, questions his own perception and works hard to understand when fear, ego or old beliefs are influencing his decisions.
So when Dave sat down with me for a Human Brand X-Ray on The Fairy BOSSmother Show, I knew I wasn’t going to meet someone who had never examined himself before.
Quite the opposite.
Dave is a businessman, father, husband, athlete, mentor and teacher who has lived through enormous personal and professional change. He has rebuilt parts of his life, reconsidered the meaning of success and developed a philosophy around what he calls sovereignty: the freedom and courage to live your own life rather than the one other people expect from you.
He is also exceptionally good at explaining how he thinks.
That became interesting very quickly.
A Human Brand X-Ray looks at the signals people give away while they are talking: the words they repeatedly choose, the details they emphasize, the contradictions that appear between different answers, the subjects that change their energy and the places where the person sitting in front of me may be communicating something they haven’t consciously intended to communicate.
With Dave, one of those moments happened when I asked him to look into an imaginary mirror and tell me what he saw.
His answer made me stop.
As our conversation continued, I began noticing something else. Whenever I tried to get closer to a simple question about Dave himself, his enormous intellect would often arrive with him. There were explanations, philosophies, psychological frameworks and carefully considered ideas about human nature, and eventually I found myself interrupting him with four words:
“You’re getting intellectual again.”
That became one of the threads I wanted to follow.
Because Dave had already told me that he values honesty, authenticity and seeing reality as clearly as possible. He actively wants people to show him what he might be missing. Yet a Human Brand X-Ray isn’t only listening to what somebody knows about themselves; I’m also watching how they construct the person they’re showing me.
And Dave was giving me a lot to look at.
There were words he used that made me stop him and ask why he had chosen them. There were descriptions of himself that appeared to pull in different directions. There were moments when I offered an interpretation and Dave disagreed, forcing me to adjust the X-Ray and look again.
Then he used one word that opened a much bigger door:
Sovereign.
Why that word?
What did sovereignty mean to Dave Rossi, and why had it become so important to the man sitting in front of me?
Following that question took us somewhere I hadn’t expected when the conversation began, and eventually it brought us back to something much simpler: whether a person can become so skilled at examining himself that his own methods of self-examination become part of what the X-Ray needs to examine.
By the end of the episode, Dave described himself as someone who is incredibly honest with himself and rated that honesty a nine out of ten.
So I had one hell of a challenge sitting opposite me.
Can a Human Brand X-Ray show something new to a man who has already spent years studying himself?
