Why Would a Former TV Host Be Afraid of Showing Up Online? - Catherine Okubo (Ep. 83)

Catherine Okubo knows what it feels like to be visible. She has a background in acting and television hosting, more than 20 years of business experience, and today serves as CEO of MPB Health, a healthcare company focused on mental and physical balance. She has also studied neuroscience, hypnotherapy, human behavior and psychology, which means she arrived on The Fairy BOSSmother Show with a considerable amount of language for understanding herself.

Yet when Catherine was asked what was holding her back in business, her answer created an immediate contradiction. She wanted to create more content and knew how powerful visibility could be for her company, but showing up online felt strangely intimidating. This was a woman who had already acted and hosted television, so I wanted to understand why this particular kind of exposure felt different.

That question became more interesting when Catherine described herself in a way that immediately caught my attention: she has “a businesswoman in my mind and an artist in my heart.” She started working in her family business in Brazil at 13 and has spent decades building a life around business, leadership and responsibility, while creativity has remained an important part of how she understands herself.

During Catherine’s Human Brand X-Ray, I began following the small things she said when the conversation moved away from work. A question about her goals outside business stopped her. A conversation about creativity opened another thread. Even a mirror exercise produced an unexpected answer that took us somewhere neither of us had planned.

The Human Brand X-Ray is built for moments like these because people often reveal something significant long before they realize they have revealed it. Catherine had come onto the show specifically because she believed an outsider might notice something in her life that had become too normal for her to see herself.

Eventually, the conversation circled back to the fear of exposure she had mentioned at the very beginning, and Catherine made a connection of her own that changed how she understood it. That discovery also raised a bigger question about what happens when one part of our identity has been allowed to dominate our lives for years.

So why could a woman comfortable appearing on television still feel afraid to show more of herself online, and what did her Human Brand X-Ray uncover hiding in plain sight?

Watch Catherine Okubo’s episode of The Fairy BOSSmother Show to find out.
