What Happens When You Know How to Tell Stories, Except Your Own? – Jennifer Johnson (Ep. 77)
Every Human Brand X-Ray starts with something that catches my attention.
This week, I kept waiting for a story.
Jennifer Johnson told me something fascinating very early in our conversation. People have heard her story and gone on to seek professional help for themselves. That’s a hell of a thing to know about the impact your story can have.
Naturally, I wanted to hear it.
This Week’s X-Ray
Jennifer is a podcast host, speaker, entrepreneur and owner of one of the largest lifestyle retail stores. She’s ambitious, accomplished and understands the power of storytelling extremely well.
So I started asking questions.
Jennifer talked about storytelling techniques. She talked about the formulas she’s developed. She talked about how she has used storytelling throughout her work and the business she’s built around herself.
I listened and I kept waiting.
There was clearly a story underneath everything we were discussing, and getting anywhere near it felt like being invited into a private room. That fascinated me.
Following the Thread
This is where the Human Brand X-Ray gets interesting because I pay attention to the places where a conversation keeps returning.
Jennifer wants her story to matter. She already has evidence that it does. Yet whenever I tried to understand the woman inside that story, we somehow found ourselves surrounded by the mechanics of storytelling again.
So I kept asking.
I wanted to understand what happens when someone becomes incredibly skilled at communicating a story and then has to sit across from another person and actually go back inside it.
There were moments when I could feel Jennifer deciding how far she wanted to let me in. I’m going to leave it there because you need to watch what happened for yourself.
The Human Brand X-Ray
This conversation made me think about the stories we say define us.
We can become incredibly good at explaining what we learned from them, what they taught us and what we’ve built since.
The Human Brand X-Ray gave Jennifer and me an opportunity to stay with her story for a little longer. And there was a reason I kept pulling on that thread.
You’ll see it unfold in the episode.
If there’s a story in your own life that you know matters, yet you find yourself explaining everything surrounding it whenever somebody gets close, you may recognise something in Jennifer’s conversation.
Watch the full episode and see what happens when the Human Brand X-Ray reaches the story behind the storyteller.
Your Human Brand X-Ray
You’ve watched me perform the Human Brand X-Ray on complete strangers on The Fairy BOSSmother Show.
Now it’s your turn.
During your Human Brand X-Ray, I’ll look closely at the identity you’re putting into the world, the patterns running through your story and the signals other people may already be picking up from you.
If you’re curious about what your own X-Ray might reveal, book your Human Brand X-Ray.
