CEO Weekly Features Talyn Rahman-Figueroa on Professional Identity and Perception

In August 2024, CEO Weekly featured my perspective on personal branding, professional reputation and the importance of how individuals present themselves to others.

The article, What Is Personal Branding? Reasons It’s Non-Negotiable, explored why professional expertise alone does not necessarily determine how someone is perceived.

At the time, my work at Boss Diplomat focused on helping entrepreneurs establish clearer professional identities, communicate their expertise and build recognition.

One of the recurring questions behind that work was simple:

Does the way you present yourself reflect the person other people actually encounter?

The Difference Between Intention and Perception

The original feature discussed how individuals could influence their professional reputation through their communication, public presentation and personal narrative.

But there is an important distinction between influencing perception and controlling it.

You can choose your title, refine your message and decide which aspects of your experience to emphasize. You cannot dictate the conclusions someone else draws from those signals.

That gap between intention and interpretation is particularly important for people whose reputations extend beyond their immediate professional circles.

How My Work Has Evolved

The CEO Weekly feature captures an earlier stage of Boss Diplomat, when my services were primarily described through the language of personal branding.

Today, my work focuses more specifically on public identity and perception.

I examine how individuals communicate verbally and nonverbally, what their presentation leads others to assume and where contradictions may exist between their intended identity and the impression they create.

The underlying interest remains consistent: understanding how people are seen, not simply how they wish to be seen.

The 2024 feature is part of that professional history.
